Quick answer
A failed print job can prevent later documents from printing. Windows allows you to cancel stuck jobs without removing the printer or changing its driver.
Before you begin
✓ Confirm you selected the correct printer and save the document you were trying to print.
✓ If this is a shared office printer, tell nearby users before canceling more than your own stuck document.
✓ Do not remove the printer, uninstall its driver, change printer ports, or restart a Windows service.
Steps for Windows 11
- Select Start.
- Select Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected printer.
- Select Open print queue.
- Confirm the correct printer is shown in the queue window.
- Right-click the stuck print job.
- Select Cancel.
- If several documents are blocked, cancel each visible stuck job only after confirming that other users no longer need those jobs.
- Wait about 30 seconds for the queue to clear.
- Close the queue window.
- Print a one-page test document.
- If the queue does not clear, restart the computer once and check the queue again.
Expected result
The old documents disappear from the queue and a new one-page test prints once. Avoid repeatedly selecting Print, because duplicate jobs may appear when the printer begins responding again.
